Reality Vs What’s on TV

You ever take an internet journey? I just couldn’t go back to sleep. So I started scrolling through my phone. I’m reading about Govt. corruption. Brie Larson supposedly doesn’t like white men. Fox news says black people should stop crying about racism. Meanwhile there’s another viral video of a cop shooting an unarmed suspect. People writing in all caps, “THEY’RE NOT GOING TO TAKE OUR GUN’S!!!” In the comment section of CNN, after a mass shooting occurs. People think the earth is flat, because it say’s so in the Bible. White people are the new minority in liberal America. Rappers with rainbow hair and R&B singers are having sex with 13 year old girls. YouTube says our universe is a hologram. At this point I throw my phone on my bed, crack open my door expecting the sky to be falling, and people murdering each other in the street. Instead I saw this…

Interracial couples sitting on the porch laughing. Two birds whistling Dixie on my neighbors fence. A Hispanic guy and a redneck talking while their dogs smell each others asses. Kids of different races, and ages, boys and girls playing a friendly game of Basketball. Flowers are starting to bloom in Texas. An old woman jogging. She looks like she’s getting in shape to fight the grim reaper the next time he comes around. My roommates package from Amazon sitting next to the door. Waiting for him to get home and unwrap it like a small boy unwrapping a Christmas present.

It’s all Bullshit. The news wants views for their sponsored ads. So they dramatize popular internet banter. They use left and right wing biases to distract people from the fact it’s a trick coin. They ask heads or tails. Then we choose are side and stick to it for life.

In the sixties Jesus and company didn’t care for people like Lenny Bruce saying mean things about the Catholic church. So they put him in jail. Now we tell grocery store clerks to go fuck themselves and record their response with our smartphones. After editing out what the recorder says to upset the person being recorded. The internet is outraged of course! We expect an apology and demand he lose his job. Because we saw 19 seconds of an old guy yelling at a kid out of context. Thousands of innocent humanitarian bystanders are digitally petitioning an old guy that works at Wendy’s.

I mean somewhere in the world a kid is walking on two flaps of skin because he stepped on a land mine. Cancer’s kill rate is still in the millions. Farmers are poor and being controlled by billion dollar companies. Which put chemicals on our food that give us cancer. But hey, we sure showed that guy that made minimum wage and never got a diploma who’s boss. Looks like you chose the right side of the coin America.

I’d like to end this with a quote from one of my favorite comedians.

“The world is like a ride in an amusement park, and when you choose to go on it you think it’s real because that’s how powerful our minds are. The ride goes up and down, around and around, it has thrills and chills, and it’s very brightly colored, and it’s very loud, and it’s fun for a while. Many people have been on the ride a long time, and they begin to wonder, “Hey, is this real, or is this just a ride?” And other people have remembered, and they come back to us and say, “Hey, don’t worry; don’t be afraid, ever, because this is just a ride.” And we … kill those people. “Shut him up! I’ve got a lot invested in this ride, shut him up! Look at my furrows of worry, look at my big bank account, and my family. This has to be real.” It’s just a ride. But we always kill the good guys who try and tell us that, you ever notice that? And let the demons run amok … But it doesn’t matter, because it’s just a ride. And we can change it any time we want. It’s only a choice. No effort, no work, no job, no savings of money. Just a simple choice, right now, between fear and love. The eyes of fear want you to put bigger locks on your doors, buy guns, close yourself off. The eyes of love instead see all of us as one. Here’s what we can do to change the world, right now, to a better ride. Take all that money we spend on weapons and defenses each year and instead spend it feeding and clothing and educating the poor of the world, which it would pay for many times over, not one human being excluded, and we could explore space, together, both inner and outer, forever, in peace.”
